Mainly anticyclonic conditions for New Zealand tonight, usually in winter anticyclones lead to frosts but this time around we have areas of cloud cover and warm upper air temperatures keeping temperatures from dropping too low for most. The North Island does experience cooler than normal overnight lows tonight, especially in the west.
The coldest overnight lows will likely be about Central Otago where lows may dip to 0 degrees, and the same goes for the Central North Island. These are the only spots to dabble in the dark arts of frosty weather for tonight. The warmest overnight lows will be about the tip of Northland and Wellington, getting down to 10 or 11 degrees.
The map below says it all for tomorrow, warmer than average everywhere. Northland gets the high getting up to 18 degrees.
