Heavy frosty conditions about the far south of the South Island will finally be purged out of the system today, Central Otago will still be the coldest spot overnight tonight but frosts should be kept at bay.
Many parts of the country are warmer than average tonight as can be seen in the map below. Bay Of Plenty takes out the warmest overnight low on 13 degrees meanwhile Central Otago drops down to about 3.
A northwesterly airflow brings warmer than average day time highs to eastern regions on Tuesday, the east coast of the North Island gets into the high teens (17 to 18 degrees). Canterbury is not far behind on 16.
Auckland and Northland being further north are warm too but a little more expected being further north getting up to 16 to 17 degrees.
