We start a new era here at WeatherWatch with the end of our normal infographics and in comes some slightly different information in regards to temperature trends at 7am each day (departure from normal Max and Min temperatures) and any coming rainfall at 4pm.
So off we start with a look at today’s max temperatures and who’s warmer or cooler than normal.
Basically most regions around New Zealand are on par today, Gisborne sees warmer than average day time highs and then at the other end of the country Fiordland is a little cool. Inland parts of North Canterbury and the Nelson / Tasman region man see a few pockets of warmer than average temperatures also.
Moving onto tonight’s overnight lows.
A cold southwest change moving northwards over the South Island from this evening brings in cool temperatures tonight as can be seen in the image above. As we get to the North Island lows are mostly average for the time of year, just Northland (especially in the east) may be a touch cooler than average by dawn on Thursday.

Can someone please put Dargaville on the weather map. We are the largest town on the west coast in the upper north island and we get different weather to Whangarei. Would be nice to be noticed.

Will try to, Helen. Space is limited on the map. We do notice you – that’s why we have more free forecasts for your specific area than Metservice and Niwa combined (paid for by your taxes). 🙂
Cheers,
