A cold front passing over the South Island brings cooler than average temperatures today south of Cook Strait for most, a little warmer than average for the North Island especially in the east. A cold front moves onto the lower North Island from this afternoon bringing cool temperatures.
Cold overnight for the South Island tonight, frosts are likely for many areas by dawn on Saturday especially inland. Overnight lows range from 7 to 11 degrees for the North Island. The only exception is the Central Plateau where overnight lows may get down to 3 or 4 degrees.
