A cold southwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand tonight, temperatures are mostly average overnight considering the time of year but with wind chill factor brought into the mixture it won’t feel all that average. The lower South Island in particular will be quite cold as can be depicted in the map below.
Southwesterlies continue on Thursday although tilting a little more westerly for the North Island and this results in warmer than average temperatures in some eastern areas. Temperatures reaching up to 16 to 17 degrees from Northland down across to Gisborne / Hawkes Bay. The coldest spot will be Southland on 6 degrees, snow flurries during the day about Southland down to 300 or maybe even 200m.
