Some ridging and calm conditions brings cold overnight lows tonight. Waikato southwards will see temperatures dip down to 0 where skies are clear and winds are light. Central Otago and inland South Canterbury may see lows descend a little further perhaps to -2 or -3.
A cold southerly change moves up the east coast of the South Island on Thursday bringing a drop in temperatures, the start of this change can be seen by the blue shaded area below for Southland and Otago. Correspondingly tomorrow’s coldest day time highs will be about Southland and coastal Otago only getting to 6 or 7 degrees. The warmest day time high goes to Kaitaia on 16.
