A ridge of high pressure settles in over the North Island tonight bringing clear skies and frosty conditions for inland areas. Lows of between 0 and -2 are possible about the Waikato and Central Plateau. A light frost is also possible about some inland parts of the South Island. Tonight’s coldest overnight low will likely be about the Central Plateau on -2, the warmest overnight lows will be in Westport and the northern tip of Northland getting down to 8.
A northwesterly airflow builds over the South Island on Tuesday, this shows with above average temperatures likely inland. Right on the eastern coastal fringe northeasterlies may keep temperatures a bit cool in the afternoon.
Alexandra up through to the Amuri Plains sees temperatures between 18 to 19 degrees, a chance highs may crack into the 20’s. Gisborne sees 13 degrees due to some cloud cover and a departing southerly, Wellington also hits around 13.
