Expect frosty conditions overnight tonight for the South Island especially for inland / eastern areas. The map below shows the general picture that the South Island will be colder than average but the overnight lows shown are a little off, temperatures will likely dip down to -2 to -4 for many. Coastal Southland / coastal Otago are frost free however due to some cloud cover and wind, same goes for coastal parts of the West Coast.
The North Island experiences average overnight temperatures for the time of year.
A southwesterly airflow flows over the country on Friday, nothing too exciting going on with average temperatures and showery conditions in the west and far south. Mainly dry in the east but a shower or two may affect the North Island’s east coast in the afternoon.
The warmest spot will be Kaitaia on 16, the coldest Central Otago and Southland on around 8 degrees.
