Light winds and a little bit of ridging extending out from an anticyclone in the Tasman Sea brings cold temperatures to New Zealand tonight. Look for frosty conditions south of about rural southern Auckland, frosts will be more likely for inland parts and a little less likely about coastal fringe areas. Southland and coastal Otago keeps frosts at bay due to cloud cover. Inland parts of both Islands may get down to -2 to -3 degrees.
Looking more settled on Friday than it has been looking lately, average temperatures for the time of year for much of the North Island. Average to slightly above average for most of the South Island. The warmest day time highs will likely be about Bay Of Plenty through to Northland in the mid teens, the coldest about Southland and Otago around 9 to 11 degrees.
