A southerly quarter airflow pushes northwards over the South Island today bringing cool temperatures along the east coast, becoming a little warmer than average in the west this afternoon due to the flow tilting southeast. Warmer than average for most of the North Island due to a northerly quarter airflow.
Still warmer than average overnight tonight for the North Island as a northerly quarter airflow persists. Southerlies keep temperatures cool further south with frosts likely about inland parts of Southland / Otago and South Canterbury by dawn on Friday.
