An anticyclone brings cold overnight temperatures tonight south of Auckland. Lows get down to 0 degrees Waikato southwards for the North Island in areas away from coastal fringes and cloud cover, -2 degrees is possible about the Central North Island.
For the South Island any areas that are cloud free tonight will likely dip down to between 0 and -2. Some parts of inland Otago and inland South Canterbury may get down to -3 to -4.
Mostly average temperatures for the North Island on Saturday, cooler than average in the east due to cloud cover and cold but easing southerlies. For the South Island temperatures are about average in the east, warmer than average in the west although don’t expect anything above 12 or 13 degrees.
