Sydneysiders have enjoyed an unseasonably warm week for winter, with the city recording its second warmest July week in 154 years of records.

The average maximum temperature has averaged 21.4 degrees during the past week, well above the July average of 16 degrees and more typical of early spring.

The warmest of these days was on Wednesday, when the mercury reached 24.3 degrees, the highest for July in four years. The warmest July week on record was back in 1975, when the city averaged a balmy 23 degrees.

The city has managed to break records though, with the last six days exceeding 20 degrees, an all-time record for July. The last five nights have also managed to reach 13 degrees or above, also a record for July.

The unseasonable warmth will come to an end tomorrow as a cold front moves through the region. On both Sunday and Monday, the mercury only set to reach 16 degrees after a low of eight degrees, much more typical for this time of year.

A slight warming trend will then commence from Tuesday, however similar warmth to the past week is highly unlikely for the remainder of the month.
