Sydney has had its second wettest April in 14 years, but the sun should shine every day until the end of the month.

At the start of April many people were shocked by the return of wet weather in Sydney after a warm and dry March. Rain has fallen on 16 of the past 23 days with more than 10mm falling on five occasions. Most of this rainfall has been due to high pressure systems positioned to the south of Sydney, directing moist onshore winds before an east coast low brought rain on Saturday.

Dry weather has now arrived in Sydney and most of New South Wales with the building of a broad high pressure system to the west of NSW. This high is bringing stability and generally light winds. The temperature will also rise into the weekend with the mercury tipped to reach between 26 and 28 degrees each day from Saturday to Monday. Many people will enjoy the chance to wear shorts and a tee-shirt again on the weekend without worrying about rain or cold temperatures.

The next chance of rain isn’t until Tuesday when a weak low pressure trough should arrive. At this stage the rainfall should only be brief and light. Once the trough has passed another high is likely to build with the rest of the week looking dry and warmer than usual for autumn.
