Mostly places lean dry with hot conditions inland today – and for the next few days ahead. Parts of Central Otago will be in the low to mid 30s today while Hamilton and large parts of Waikato and sheltered inland parts of Auckland climb into the late 20s and even early 30s.
It’s not just the top and bottom of the country – inland parts of Nelson and Marlborough and up through Manawatu too, many parts of inland NZ will be closer to 30 degrees today and/or the days ahead.
Coastal areas may be a few degrees cooler.
Mid to late this week colder airflows will again briefly brush the lower South Island. On Wednesday and Thursday daytime highs may only reach 13 or 14C in parts of Dunedin.
Most of NZ is dry but a low pressure zone to our north east may produce a few coastal showers in the upper North Island. The tropics have a lot of energy at the moment (Cyclone Jake was named in the Coral Sea on Saturday but is likely to fall apart later today or overnight).
