The heat continues to increase in eastern NZ with highs into the low 30s possible in some places today (Hawke’s Bay, for example).
The flip side is that western areas have more cloud and showers and slightly cooler airflows – along with Southland. Rain will be falling in Fiordland and south Westland again today.
High pressure is centred very near the Far North bringing calm weather and sunny conditions into much of Northland too.
Westerly quarter winds continue on, for many in that 20 to 40km/h range which is still very much “annoying” if you’re in a tent camping or organising an outdoor lunch etc.
Calmest weather will be in the very north of the North Island and some central parts of the country in the east.

Well done WW for the excellent and accurate daily forecasts, you have been spot on for some time now unlike the rest who deliver mediocre reports.
Thank you for your good work.
