Upper North Island

Cloudy spells and a few sunny areas with west to southwest breezes, there may be a brief shower move through at times otherwise mainly dry weather expected. The Bay Of Plenty can expect sunny conditions today with dry weather.

Lower North Island

Cloudy spells and a few sunny areas with westerly breezes, freshening from afternoon. Mostly sunny about Wellington with northerlies becoming strong there in the afternoon. Sunny along the east coast with light winds at first, northwesterlies
freshen in the afternoon for some bringing warm temperatures. Hawkes Bay can expect afternoon easterly breezes.

Upper South Island

Along the West Coast there may be a few sunny spells about this
morning however becoming cloudy by midday, west to northwesterly winds increase
with showers moving in during the afternoon. A period of rain in the evening as
winds change southwest, rain may be heavy with thunderstorms and hail. Mostly
sunny about Nelson with light winds at first then afternoon northerlies, winds
change southwest later in the evening with some cloud then showers moving in
overnight. Mostly sunny on the east coast with north to northwesterly winds
increasing, some high cloud developing. A change to southwesterlies later in the
evening or overnight for Canterbury brings showers, a risk that some may be
heavy with hail and thunderstorms mainly south of about Banks Peninsula.

Lower South Island

 
Cloudy on the West Coast south of Haast with showers developing this
morning, turning to heavy falls at times from afternoon with the potential for
thunderstorms and hail as winds change westerly then southwest later in the day.
Brisk westerlies about Southland bring occasional showers, showers a bit heavier
from afternoon with the potential for thunderstorms and hail as winds change
southwest. West to northwest winds about Otago with sunny areas and some cloud,
warm in the east to start. A change to WSW winds in the afternoon brings showers
with the potential for thunderstorms and hail. Snow in the hills about Fiordland
and Southland to 700m from later in the evening.
