Upper North Island

Morning cloud then afternoon sunny areas, westerly winds. There may be a light shower or two at first in the morning too, mainly along the west coast. The Bay Of Plenty will have mostly sunny weather with westerlies tending north to northwest in the afternoon.

Lower North Island

Mostly sunny on the east coast with some high cloud developing from afternoon, brisk northwesterlies about Wairarapa become strong gusting to
gale force at times from evening. Further north expect lighter winds with
northwesterlies freshening afternoon or evening. Fairly cloudy in the west with
brisk west to northwest winds, chance of the odd shower mainly this morning.
Wellington sees sunny spells and strong northerly winds, gales possible from
evening then some rain moves in overnight.

Upper South Island

High cloud in the east with increasing northwesterly winds, strong at times from
midday. There is a risk of gusts to gale force at times inland, especially
exposed areas. A southerly change moves into South Canterbury in the afternoon
bringing a few showers and moves north to about Banks Peninsula by evening.
Cloudy on the West Coast with the odd shower and breezy northwesterly winds,
rain moves in during the afternoon with the odd heavy fall then eases again
later in the evening with a westerly change.

Lower South Island

Heavy rainfall on the West Coast south of Haast easing by late
afternoon as northwesterlies change westerly. Showers about Southland and
Central Otago move into Coastal Otago late morning as northerlies change more
westerly, showers may be heavy with a thunderstorm or two.
