Upper North Island

Cloudy spells with westerlies tending more northwest in the afternoon, mainly dry. Later in the evening or overnight rain develops as a front moves in from the Tasman Sea.

Lower North Island

Cloudy spells with northwesterly breezes, chance of a shower in western areas early on then clearing. Sunny spells increase from morning along the east coast with southwesterlies early on dying out. Rain develops during the evening in the west and high cloud thickens out east, rain spreads to eastern areas overnight.

Upper South Island

Mainly cloudy skies with easterly winds on the east coast and northerlies on the west coast. Morning showers clear on the West Coast, eastern areas see the odd light shower or drizzle patch, especially for inland areas. Nelson and Marlborough will likely see some sunny spells with high cloud thickening in the afternoon, rain develops later in the evening.

Lower South Island

Sunny spells with light winds, skies about coastal Otago will be fairly cloudy. The odd shower may spring up in the afternoon about Otago otherwise remaining fairly dry.
