Sunday’s national forecast

> From the WeatherWatch archives

It will be a wet day for much of the North Island. Even parts of the South Island could see a bit of rain.

Expect rain to spread across Northland this morning and eventually move into Auckland, the Coromandel Peninsula and Bay of Plenty by noon. Some pockets of heavy rain are possible during the afternoon hours about the Auckland area, but the chance is pretty small. There is a slightly better chance for heavy rain this afternoon and evening…and then into the overnight hours for Auckland, southern Northland and the Coromandel Peninsula.

Waikato, Taranaki, parts of the Central Plateau and East Cape/Gisborne could see showers move in early this afternoon. Showers could turn to rain tonight.

The lower regions of the North Island could see showers move in late tonight.

On the South Island, it will be a showery start for the deep south. But the rain should clear out before noon. That will leave Southland and Otago with a fairly cloudy but dry Sunday. The rest of the South Island can also expect a rather cloudy, but dry day. A few peeks of sunshine are certainly not out of the question.

Very wet with gusty winds today, overnight rain was steady too. Definitely an indoor day.
