Upper North Island

Rain with heavy falls at first this morning then easing to showers by midday. Winds strong from the east or southeast with gales in exposed areas.

Lower North Island

Cloudy skies with southeasterly winds, gusty at times about Wanganui northwards in the west then easing in the evening. The odd shower about mainly for Taranaki across to Hawkes Bay northwards then easing in the evening and clearing, Gisborne sees rain then easing later in the day. Further south expect dry weather.

Upper South Island

Morning cloud breaks to mostly sunny weather for most, northeasterly winds pick up in the afternoon for eastern coastal areas. Mostly sunny on the West Coast with light winds.

Lower South Island

Mostly sunny weather with light winds, morning cloud clears in the east with east to northeast winds picking up a little in the afternoon.

Hawkes bay has had light rain for 8 hours! Not odd shower??

Well, you guys got the “heavy falls” spot on for the North this morning. Just been out to check my rain guage here just south of Waipu and have recorded 110 mils since midnight. A long time since I have seen this much in 8 hrs in my experience. This will push any expected droughts away for awhile as I believe more rain expected later this week.
