Upper North Island

Any morning cloud breaks to sunny areas, westerly
winds build a little in the afternoon. Towards evening a light shower or two may make their way into western Waikato.

Lower North Island

Mostly cloudy with strengthening westerly winds, a few showers move into Taranaki southwards in the west around midday. Winds change southerly in the evening with showers gradually clearing. Along the east coast expect high cloud and northwesterly winds gusty about the Wairarapa, southerlies develop in the evening bringing cooler temperatures, cloud and some drizzle. Mostly cloudy about Wellington with gusty northwesterlies, the odd spot of rain or patchy shower at times midday onwards, southerlies move in late afternoon / evening.

Upper South Island

Gusty northwesterlies in the east with sunny areas and high cloud, warm temperatures also. Winds change south to southwest about Canterbury early afternoon and into Marlborough by late afternoon bringing a few patchy light showers / drizzly areas. Southerlies tend easterly around midnight. On the West Coast expect rain with the chance of a heavy fall to ease to showers in the afternoon, gusty northwesterlies ease tending southwest by midday, showers then clear by evening.

Lower South Island

South to southwesterly winds develop about Southland and Otago in the morning bringing cloud and the odd patchy light shower / area of drizzle. Areas of precipitation clear mid to late afternoon then southerly winds tend northeast in the evening. Morning showers about Fiordland clearing then mostly sunny in the afternoon.
