Upper North Island
Lower North Island
Rain with heavy falls possible south of about Taihape then easing this afternoon, strong
south to southeasterly winds. Cloudy areas about Hawkes Bay and Gisborne, the
odd shower possible then in the afternoon and evening southerlies freshen
bringing rain. Rain clears south of about Taihape in the evening or overnight.
Upper South Island
Rain (possibly heavy) about Tasman, Nelson and Marlborough eases by midday then clears by evening. Some rain north of Westport clears this morning. Gusty south to southeasterly winds ease later
in the day, winds about the outer Sounds and Farewell Spit will likely be very
strong gusting over gale force from the SSE. Snow to 600m in Marlborough and
800m elsewhere. Snow may sit around 400m about southern Marlborough but falls
will be lighter then further north.
Lower South Island
Mostly sunny on the West Coast south of the Glaciers, high cloud further north, gusty
southeasterlies ease later in the day. Fairly cloudy about Canterbury with
any morning showers clearing, especially Banks Peninsula northwards. Sunny
breaks develop in the afternoon mainly Banks Peninsula southwards, cool south to
southwesterly winds easing later in the day. A few light morning snow flurries
to 400m about parts of North Cantebury before clearing. Sunny areas and some
cloud about Southland and Otago, southwesterlies tend northeast in the afternoon
for Southland then by evening for Otago.
