Sunday’s forecast: Weak front in lower SI, risk of lightning north eastern NI

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Daytime heating and some atmospheric instability may lead to some thunderstorms in the north-eastern corner of the North Island today (mostly BoP and East Cape, Gisborne and maybe Hawke’s Bay). It’s possible isolated showers and maybe isolated thunderstorms will pop up elsewhere, otherwise most of the country is dry.

The lower South Island has a weak front arriving later today with a little bit of wet weather, mostly around parts of Fiordland, Southland and Otago. Dry and settled for most other places.

General set up on Sunday afternoon with some wet weather moving into the lower South Island and a few showers in the North Island. This image doesn’t represent the entire day – track on rain radar today if you need more details. Some areas with a risk still may not have a shower with such low values forecast.
