> From the WeatherWatch archives

Upper North Island

Morning rain eases to showers which then clear, a mostly sunny afternoon in store with westerly winds. Auckland and Northland may continue to see the odd shower for the rest of the day however.

Lower North Island

Chance of an early shower in the east otherwise mostly sunny
with breezy west to northwest winds, strong southwesterlies overnight about Wairarapa bring showers. Cloudy periods in the west with brisk northwesterlies becoming strong evening, the odd shower possible at times. Some overnight rain
with a southwest change. Wellington can expect mostly sunny weather with
strengthening northwesterlies, gales from afternoon. An overnight southwest
change brings rain. Some snow overnight about the Central Plateau and the
Wellington / Wairarapa ranges to 800m. Chance of a few flurries to slightly
lower levels early on Monday however settling is not likely.

Upper South Island

Strong northwesterly winds with gales developing in the afternoon
about North Canterbury and Marlborough in the east, mostly sunny conditions and
some high cloud. Out west expect rain. Winds change southwest in the evening
with rain easing in the west and showers developing out east. Some snow in the
west down to 1000m by afternoon then potentially 200m by midnight before
clearing (any flurries to 200m will likely not settle so the visible snow level
will most likely be higher). Out east showers from evening in Canterbury (mainly
near the coast) bring the snow level to 800m at first then 200m overnight, while
cold accumulations will not be significant. Winds change southwest later in the
evening about Marlborough bringing a few brief showers, chance of a few flurries
to 600m for a time then clearing overnight or early Monday.

Lower South Island

Strong northwesterlies develop in the east this morning with high
cloud building, a PM southwest change brings wintry showers and snow to low
levels overnight. Expect rain for Southland and Central Otago (especially out
west) with strong northwesterlies gusting to gale force at times, cold
southwesterlies develop in the afternoon with snow to low levels from evening.
Rain about South Westland and Fiordland with strong northwesterlies, easing
afternoon to showers as winds change southwest. Snow about the Fiordland
mountains to 800m in the morning then lowering to low levels in the evening.
