South Island weekend: Showers and dry spells

> From the WeatherWatch archives

It appears the South Island will have a fairly quiet weekend of weather this coming weekend although it’s not entirely settled with showers here and there, especially as a North Island low passes by.

Before dawn on Saturday some rain will move up the West Coast with heavy falls possible around the upper South Island for a time. As the low pushes into the North Island there is the chance for rain to set in across Nelson and Marlborough – keep an eye on the rain maps as it’s fairly fine line.

The North Island low may even push rain into North Canterbury, but this isn’t locked in – but the models have been showing some chances of rain for a week now.

Sunday looks mainly dry – but showers will pop up across the island.

Canterbury still looks hit and miss for the rain, some in the north do have the chance for soaking rains but it’s an incredibly fine line between rain – and nothing at all.

Another low is likely to move into the South Island in about 8 days time, around next Saturday with more chances of rain again.
