MetService has issued several wind and rain warnings for the South Island.

Buller

HEAVY RAIN WARNING RANGES OF WESTLAND SOUTH OF OTIRA Heavy rain is expected to develop Friday afternoon. In the 15 hours from 3pm Friday to 6am Saturday, 100 to 150mm of rain may accumulate. During the same period, up to 60mm is possible about the lower areas of Westland. The heaviest rain is likely Friday evening and early Saturday morning and intensities of 20 to 25mm/hr are possible.

Westland

HEAVY RAIN WARNING FIORDLAND: Heavy rain should develop during Friday morning. In the 12 hours from 8am to 8pm Friday, expect 80 to 120mm of rain. Between midday and 9pm Friday, expect severe gale northwesterlies in exposed inland areas with gusts of 120 km/h. Note that strong or gale northwesterlies will spread across the Plains and coastal areas during Friday afternoon.
