WeatherWatch.co.nz forecasters – who have exclusively been predicting snow flakes in Auckland most of today – say a new band of snow showers is about to descend on the city this evening.
The forecast says there is a “high risk” of a few snow flakes across the city to sea level while snow may settle at 100 or 200 metres. The new band of showers is expected to start around 8 or 9pm and last off and on overnight – with dry/clear spells too.

WeatherWatch.co.nz says the chance of snow in the city – which up until today hadn’t received snow since 1939 – is higher than it was today when the sun was up. It’s currently just 4 degrees in Auckland with showers heading in.
But it’s Canterbury that has serious issues ahead – a new wave of snow is going to set in overnight possibly bringing another 20cms of snow or even more. CNN is reporting up to 65cms of snow inland near the foothills and mountains.
Snow will also push back in to Wellington and surrounding regions overnight with exceptionally cold, strong, winds.

Quite likely is lightening – we were having it earlier here today in Wellington (Upper Hutt) despite still being freezing and on and off snow. Kept having power surges along with the flashes… Fun times!
