Snow falls to sea level in Napier

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Updated 9:24am — WeatherWatch.co.nz has received dozens of comments about snow falling to sea level in Napier.

A short time ago Hawkes Bay Police confirmed this to WeatherWatch.

Locals say it isn’t settling, but is falling.

WeatherWatch.co.nz says the last time snow was reported to sea level in Napier was in the August 2011 snow storm that saw snow flakes falling as far north as Auckland City.

We had heavy sleet shower with hail mixed in around 45 mins ago. You could definately see the snow swirling around in the mix as it came down, here in Taupo. Piles of hail still sitting on the ground. Temp fell to around 2 deg during the sleet showers.

Airport-has seen early plane to Auckland cancelled, rescheduled to this afternoon. I wonder how much snow on SH5 at Te Pohue?
