Aucklanders… over the past few days Civil Defence has alerted the public to Severe Thunderstorm Watches & Warnings via their free app. See details below…
Using your smartphone, Auckland Civil Defence is helping to transform the way Aucklanders receive warnings in an emergency. Once registered, users will receive real-time alerts and advice from authorities of impending disasters, such as potentially dangerous weather, and tsunami risks, as well as other vital emergency information.
The app, which can be downloaded to Apple and Android devices here, was developed to assist New Zealanders who may not be near a TV or radio when a disaster strikes – or is about to – and give them a critical head start to prepare for it.
The app uses the same sound alerts unique to Civil Defence and used during emergencies by broadcasters – so there is no mistaking a warning for a text message or phone call.
This is an EXCLUSIVE service from Auckland Council Civil Defence and Emergency Management – and WeatherWatch.co.nz is fully supportive of any improvements in warning technology, such as this.
Best of all – it’s free.
