All warnings have now been lifted following a dramatic day in the skies above the central North Island but Wednesday is shaping up to be Groundhog Day with a near identical outlook in place.
WeatherWatch.co.nz says more storms are likely from late this morning/noon across the Central North Island.

Just started raining here in morrinsville. been watching all the lightning off to the SW. Maybe our turn now for the next few hours???? Looks pretty hard out too!!

Out of curiosity why do they lift the warnings when they are still clearly happening? still have thunder & lightening here in Hamilton maybe we don’t matter lol

The warnings are only for SEVERE thunderstorms…the thunderstorms have eased now and are just ‘regular’ thunderstorms. Enjoy the show!

alot of lightning strikes now occuring in hamilton about 2 minutes apart from each other. As the sun was setting the city went totally yellowish orange, now cloads are really black and wind is starting to pick up.

Upper Atiamuri 20mins out of rotorua heading towards tokoroa…. Been lightning and thunder past three hours, now those and very very heavy rain, paddock outside going underwater very quicly. Much more rain falling than a few days ago where 52ml fell in 30mins
