Severe Cyclone Yasa rapidly intensifies, now Category 4

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Breaking News — A serious storm is rapidly developing between Vanuatu and Fiji. Cyclone Yasa is now a “severe” Category 4 tropical storm with sustained winds of 160km/h to 200km/h. Gusts will go even higher.

The storm has strengthened incredibly fast. Yasa was Category 2 earlier this morning then lifted to Category 3 and by afternoon bumped up to Category 4 tropical cyclone.

Yasa is forecast to hit Fiji on Thursday night/Friday as a major tropical cyclone – possibly in the highest category, five. Those in Fiji should immediately begin preparing for a major weather event.

We have full details on both these cyclones from a previous story from today here.
