Settled evening across the country, some cloud in the east

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Usually on Saturday evening with these stories we talk about the three main centres across the country and how the weather is looking, and this article will be no different. However I’ll also add in a few sentences about how it is looking for the whole country this evening and overnight because the weather is not complicated tonight with a high pressure system covering the country.

First to Auckland, after what has been a stunning day with warm temperatures the evening is looking equally as good. Expect sea breezes to gradually ease this evening with light winds overnight, a low of 15 perhaps 14 degrees.

Wellington has also had a sunny day, a little cool with a sea breeze keeping temperatures down however those wind will die away this evening. Further inland about the likes of Upper Hutt would have been the place to be with lighter winds and warmer temperatures. Lows overnight dip down to a 15 or 14 degrees too.

Christchurch gets the slightly more inclement weather this time round although it’s not too bad, after sunny spells this afternoon cloud should move in again this evening. Easterly winds will peak this evening around 25 to 30 km/h then ease towards midnight. Temperatures dip down to 11 or 10 degrees.

As for the rest of the country the weather is as follows overnight. For the upper North Island, expect mainly clear skies with light winds tending southeasterly, some cloud is possible about Coromandel and eastern Northland. The lower North Island is fairly settled with sea breezes easing in coastal areas this evening, light winds overnight although northeasterlies about the east coast may be a little breezy through the night bringing some cloud.

Gisborne northwards may see some drizzle overnight with cloudy periods, winds tend more southeasterly there. And about inland Taranaki and inland Manawatu, heavy isolated showers ease then clear later this evening.

For the upper South Island, sea breezes ease away this evening although easterlies about the Canterbury coast may not ease away till after midnight. Generally clear skies although as mentioned above for Christchurch, cloud drifts in especially north of Banks Peninsula this evening in Cantebury.

Mainly clear skies in general across the lower South Island although there may be some high cloud. Sea breezes ease away this evening about coastal parts. Some cloud increases overnight about Fiordland with northerlies, some drizzle there towards dawn.
