Hi team. Congrats to the team for a spot on weather forecast and warnings.
Saturday evening weather here in the Mamaku/Kaimai’s is pretty wicked. Winds are still very gusty wnw at the moment, with heavy shwrs from grey angry looking overcast clouds. Quite cold with a mean wind chill factor. For those driving over the Mamaku’s heading to or from Rotorua, roads are bit greasy. Due to the cold, and car heaters on, beware of drowsyness.
Baro steady on 1004. Current 6pm temp is 8deg
Damage, parts of rural Mamaku are without power, and fences, trees are down, nothing major though. No sign of thunder or lightning at this stage.
Cheers

Whangarei update,
We seem to have missed the bad stuff, apart from a few heavyish showers and a strong wind last night it was nothing bad. Well not in our part of town anyway.
This morning is a mix of sun and cloud but a good westerly for sure, or maybe SW,and basically dry.
So glad we did not get the full brunt of it as the edges were bad enough from what I read.
Best wishes to all those who have been hit hard, may you soon get back to normal again.

Huge gusts of wind, heavy rain and lightening about 6.50pm this evening. Massive fully grown tree crashed straight on top of my friends car while they were driving along. Car destroyed and occupents of the vechile in hospital. All ok just neck and back injuries.
Never seen weather this wild in this area! (Franklin)

But I can tell you that the wind is horrible. We have no power, which means no water or phone. I am almost out of battery on lappy, but thank goodness I had mobile internet. Had hail, thunder, lighting and heaps of rain. Whitianga here, the rain capital………lol

Hi team, getting some pretty severe gusts of wind here in Mamaku. House is shaking during the blast but still standing. No reports of damage around village altho lights tend to flicker at times, but pretty dark up here so may have to wait till morning.
Rain heavy at times, winds nw-westerly strong with very strong gusts, baro still steady at 1004, temp 6deg
Cheers

We saw Rotorua had gusts to 115km/h in the 10pm hour which is actually very rare for Rotorua city. Would be even windier where you are we imagine.
Thanks for the updates
