Some parts of the North Island are dealing with gales and heavy rain this evening – other areas just have a bit of wind and rain.
The severe gales and heaviest rain are in pockets across the North Island – winds mostly just west of the main ranges, rain mostly in the east.
While the winds aren’t too severe in Auckland, and other main centres, the direction of the wind could cause damage to trees/buildings that normally handle gale force winds from the prevailing direction, westerly.
If you’ve seen any wind damage or flooding please let us know – please don’t forget to leave your name, location and the time you saw it.
WeatherWatch.co.nz works best when people across the country share information – feel free to also leave below the weather observations where you are tonight.

Severe road flooding, unpassable in places on the farewell spit road past Collingwood on way to pakawau. River has burst it’s banks in places and is almost over submerging the bridge. If weather gets worse so will the flooding. Already been a crash due to aqua planning.

High tide at Snells Beach now. The wooden posts and the rope on the beach took a bit of hammering and all the ice plants that were flowering are now gone. But the seawall is taking a lot more pounding. I wonder if they build them to make things worse. It is strong, but no worse than other storms I’ve seen in the past 5-6 years.

Hi Phil
Its howling and pouring out here – seas are up down Gulf Harbour marina with surface flooding on the roads in some places. A friend of ours who is on Kawau at the moment heard on the boat VHF that its 77 knots at Channel Island right now. We have received via text a civil defence warning re the storm.
Cheers

Hi Phil
Nothing much in The Tron, a few gusts but I think we have got off light.
I went across the plains earlier & it was ramping up there. Just got a report of a chimney being blown off in Whitianga
Cheers
Dave
