> From the WeatherWatch archives

South East Queensland has been going through some very cold nights again and last night was no different reports Sunshine Coast Weather, with many places dipping below zero.

Brisbane dropped to 4.1c while at the airport it was 3.5c.  Below is a list of the places to the North and West of Brisbane that went below 0c last night.

  • Oakey -4.5c
  • Kingaroy -4.1c
  • Warwick-3.7c
  • Applethorpe -3.7c
  • Roma -3.0
  • Jimna -2.6c
  • Miles -2.2c
  • Dalby -2.1c
  • Amberley -1.2c
  • Beaudesert -0.9c
  • Gayndah -0.9c
  • Gympie -0.8c
  • Charlieville -0.8c
  • Bilolea -0.7c
  • Gatton -0.4c

The reason for the cold nights is because Queensland has been under a ridge of high pressure which has brought cold air with it.  With the skies being clear the heat during the day goes back into space and the result is for some very cold nights.

The cold nights are expected to stay through the weekend before temperatures start warming up early next week as an onshore flow develops.
