Saturday’s weather outlook

> From the WeatherWatch archives

A high to the east of New Zealand and a low in the Tasman Sea to the west direct a humid northeasterly airflow over New Zealand today.

For the North Island skies are mostly cloudy with periods of rain or showers, dry areas too especially in the west. Still the odd heavy fall possible mainly in northeastern parts like eastern Northland, Coromandel and the Bay Of Plenty.

Rain with the chance of heavy falls easing about the lower North Island this morning for most, not easing about Wellington till afternoon however.

A mainly cloudy day over the upper South Island, rain about Nelson and Marlborough for much of the day with the odd heavy fall. The West Coast sees a few spells of rain heavy at times Greymouth northwards, Canterbury gets a few areas of rain during today but some parts may remain fairly dry.

Southland and Otago stay mainly dry all day with some high cloud, light winds tending onshore for coastal areas in the afternoon. A southwest change moves into Southland overnight bringing some rain which makes it’s presence felt in Otago around dawn on Sunday.
