Saturday’s national forecast – Weather eases

The strong northerlies over the South Island yesterday will have eased today, there is still rain for the West Coast. The North Island is largely settled thanks to a ridge of high pressure, perhaps a few showers in the northeast.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Partly cloudy, showers move into eastern Northland through to Coromandel in the afternoon, perhaps Bay Of Plenty by evening. Northeasterly winds.
Highs: 17-19

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Morning showers clear Taranaki, clearing Kapiti in the afternoon. Elsewhere expect sun and high cloud. Northerly winds.
Highs: 12-17

Eastern North Island

Sun and high cloud, north to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 16-19

Wellington

Cloudy, a few spits or showers clear in the afternoon. Breezy northwesterlies.
Highs: 15-16

Marlborough & Nelson

Mostly cloudy with a few spits or showers, eastern Marlborough may stay dry. Breezy north to northwesterly winds ease in the evening.
Highs: 16-18

Canterbury

Partly cloudy, rain in the high country eases or clears in the afternoon. Northerlies for most (breezy in the morning but easing), afternoon easterlies for a time south of Banks Peninsula.
Highs: 14-19

West Coast

Rain, heavy falls for some in the morning then easing. Fiordland may have some dry weather in the morning then rain later in the day. Northerlies tend northeast in the afternoon.
Highs: 14-17

Southland & Otago
Partly cloudy, the odd coastal shower for Southland clears in the afternoon. North to northwesterly winds ease, afternoon northeasterlies for coastal Otago.
Highs: 14-15
