A northwesterly airflow strengthens over the country today, the South Island especially. A cold front moves into the far south this evening.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly sunny, there could be some morning fog or cloud then breaking away. A touch of high cloud during the day. Light west to southwesterly winds, a sea breeze may develop in the afternoon along eastern coastal areas.
Highs: 16 – 17
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
A mix of sun and cloud, a few light showers possible for Kapiti. Overnight cloud thickens with a few showers more likely. Increasing northwesterlies.
Highs: 12 – 16
Eastern North Island
Mostly sunny with a touch of high cloud, high cloud thickens at night. North to northwesterly winds, strong later in the day for Wairarapa. Hawkes Bay and Gisborne sees winds tend northeast in the afternoon for a time about the coast.

Wellington
Partly cloudy with increasing north to northwesterly winds, gales from evening. Overnight spits.
Highs: 14 – 15
Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly sunny with some developing high cloud, northwesterlies increase after midday, strong for Farewell Spit and the Sounds. Overnight spits of rain or a few showers.
Highs: 16 – 19
Canterbury
Sun and increasing high cloud, rain in the evening up in the high country, a few spits may spread further east. North to northwesterly winds pick up after midday perhaps becoming strong especially inland.

West Coast
Mostly cloudy with a few showers, rain (possibly heavy) moves into Fiordland during the morning then pushes northwards during the afternoon, reaching Buller in the evening. North to northwesterly winds freshen.
Highs: 13 – 16
Southland & Otago
Plenty of high cloud with north to northwesterly winds strengthening in the afternoon, there may be a few spits. Evening rain with a westerly change (strong for coastal areas), not reaching coastal / north Otago till later in the evening.
