Saturday’s national forecast – Southwest airflow

A southwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand today, showers for the eastern North Island with showers in the west clearing up. The South Island is fairly settled but a weak front in the south brings some cloud up the east coast, especially later today.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Showers thin out in the afternoon, remaining showers clear in the evening but the odd one remains for Northland. Sunny spells break through after midday. Southwesterly winds.
Highs: 16-18

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Morning showers clear then a few sunny spells break through, the odd shower may continue to spread into the Central Plateau from the east, clearing evening. South to southeasterly winds.
Highs: 9-16

Eastern North Island

Showers, drying out in the afternoon for Wairarapa then overnight coastal showers move back in. Southwesterly winds, brisk to strong about the coast, easing later in the day.
Highs: 13-15

Wellington

Morning showers clear then sunny spells increase, cloud thickens again later in the evening bringing the risk of a shower. Southerlies.
Highs: 12-13

Marlborough & Nelson

Any morning cloud clears then mostly sunny, later in the evening cloud may thicken up again. Southerly winds, afternoon northerlies for Nelson.
Highs: 13-15

Canterbury

Sunny, cloud starts to thicken up from afternoon as light winds tend to the south. Evening drizzle possible, mainly inland.
Highs: 11-14

West Coast

Sunny with light winds.
Highs: 13-16

Southland & Otago
Cloud thickens in the morning for Southland, afternoon in the Otago, risk of a light shower with cloud. Light south to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 11-12
