Saturday’s national forecast – Ridge of high pressure

A ridge of high pressure moves in today bringing mainly settled weather, a few showers clear for the eastern North Island though and a few showers arrive about the southwest of the South Island.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Any early showers clear, a mix of sun and cloud with breezy southwesterly winds. Winds tend more westerly for Bay Of Plenty.
Highs: 22-26

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
A mix of sun and cloud with southwesterly winds, dying out in the evening for most but continuing for coastal Taranaki.
Highs: 18-23

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny weather, some morning cloud and a few coastal showers  Mahia Peninsula northwards clears away to afternoon sun. Southwesterlies die out by evening.
Highs: 23-24

Wellington

Any early cloud clears then sunny, light southerlies tend northerly by midday.
Highs: 21-24

Marlborough & Nelson

Sunny. Northeasterly winds for Marlborough. Morning southwesterlies for Nelson tend to the north in the afternoon.
Highs: 23-24

Canterbury

Mostly sunny, a touch of high cloud. Light winds tend east to northeast near the coast.
Highs: 21-24

West Coast

Partly cloudy with the odd shower, Fiordland may have some rain. West to southwesterly winds
Highs: 18-22

Southland & Otago
Partly cloudy for Southland, chance of a coastal shower. Further north has morning sun then some cloud from afternoon. Northwesterly winds for most, northeasterlies for coastal Otago.
Highs: 20-24
