An area of low pressure that brought some unstable weather to the North Island yesterday is dropping away to the southeast today leaving a southwest airflow in its wake. The South Island has a southerly quarter airflow, a front moves into the far south later today bringing thickening cloud and a few light showers.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
A mix of sun and cloud, chance of a shower, more so in the morning then thinning out from afternoon. Southwesterly winds.
Highs: 17-20
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Occasional showers with west to southwesterly winds, showers clear in the evening as winds change to the south.
Highs: 12-17
Eastern North Island
Mostly cloudy with occasional showers, Gisborne has a dry morning then afternoon showers move in. Southwesterly winds.
Highs: 15-18
Wellington
Mostly cloudy with the odd shower, southerly winds.
Highs: 13-15
Marlborough & Nelson
Partly cloudy, chance of a shower. Southerly winds, afternoon northerlies for Nelson.
Highs: 16-18
Canterbury
A bit cloudy, South and Mid Canterbury have some sun though. Chance of a morning coastal drizzle patch then the chance of a shower about inland ranges in the afternoon. Winds from the south or southwest.
Highs: 14-19
West Coast
Mostly sunny, a touch of high cloud, a few afternoon clouds about the ranges. Light winds tend west to southwest in the afternoon.
Highs: 16-21
Southland & Otago
Mostly sunny with some high cloud, some low cloud or fog possible this morning. This evening cloud thickens bringing the chance of a light shower or two about coastal parts.
