Saturday’s national forecast – Low forms in the Tasman

A low pressure system forms in the Tasman Sea today, a few troughs and a front slowly push northwards over the South Island bringing showers then some rain. The North Island has a trough feeding into the west bringing showers.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
A mix of sun and cloud, chance of a shower. Northwesterly winds.
Highs: 19-21


Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Cloudy areas with a few showers, perhaps some rain in the afternoon. Northwesterly winds.
Highs: 14-19

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny, a few clouds from afternoon could bring a spot or two of rain. North to northwesterly winds, coastal northeasterlies in the afternoon for Hawkes Bay and Gisborne.
Highs: 20-25

Wellington

Partly cloudy, the odd spit or shower mainly in the north. Gusty northwesterlies.
Highs: 18-19

Marlborough & Nelson

Sun and some high cloud, northwesterly winds.
Highs: 20-22

Canterbury

A dry morning with sunny spells, southerlies develop in the afternoon bringing showers, perhaps heavy in spots then turning to rain.
Highs: 17-21

West Coast

Showers with westerly winds, changing southwest later in the day.
Highs: 14-17

Southland & Otago
Showers for Southland, easing in the evening. Otago may be dry in the morning then showers move in, turning to rain in the afternoon. Some snow above 700m especially later in the day. Southwesterly winds.
Highs: 12-15
