Saturday’s national forecast – High starts moving in

A high pressure system starts moving in from the Tasman Sea today, but not before there is showers and perhaps some unstable weather to clear the North Island.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Morning showers may be heavy with thunderstorms then easing and clearing in the afternoon with sunny areas increasing, southwesterly winds, tending westerly for Bay Of Plenty.
Highs: 23-26

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Morning rain eases to showers as winds change southeast, clearing in the afternoon with sun increasing.
Highs: 18-22

Eastern North Island

Morning rain Mahia Peninsula northwards with northwesterlies, showers for Wairarapa in the morning with southerlies, showers push into Hawkes Bay before midday then Gisborne in the afternoon at which point showers start to clear from the south. Showers may be heavy for a time with thunderstorms for Hawkes Bay and Gisborne, especially in the ranges.
Highs: 20-25

Wellington

Early rain eases to showers, clearing midday then sunny areas increase. Fresh southerlies ease, tending northeast in the evening.
Highs: 18-22

Marlborough & Nelson

Morning showers clear then becoming sunny, southerlies ease tending to the north or northeast in the afternoon.
Highs: 20-21

Canterbury

Any early showers clear then mostly sunny, southwesterlies tend east to northeast by midday.
Highs: 19-22

West Coast

Mostly sunny with morning showers clearing Buller, a few showers then move into Fiordland with a little cloud pushing a bit further north later in the day. West to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 17-21

Southland & Otago
Mostly sunny with some high cloud, a little mid level cloud for a time too. Northwesterly winds for most but tending northeast for coastal Otago.
Highs: 18-22
