Saturday’s national forecast – Easing SW airflow

A southwesterly airflow eases today as a high pushes in from the Tasman Sea.

North Island

A mix of sun and cloud out west, chance of a shower in the afternoon with southwesterly winds. Afternoon northerlies for Bay Of Plenty, a few isolated showers develop late afternoon then easing at night. South to southeasterly winds in the southwest (Taranaki through to Kapiti), Manawatu and Kapiti may have the odd shower then clearing in the afternoon. Wellington has a few morning showers clearing then sunny spells with southerlies easing later today. A few showers about Wairarapa spread northwards into Hawkes Bay and Gisborne this afternoon with southerly winds, clearing at night.

South Island

A mix of sun and cloud along the West Coast with southwesterly winds, cloud thickens at night. Morning cloud in the south breaks to increasing sunny areas, morning showers for Southland and the Catlins clear, southwesterlies ease later. Mostly cloudy for Canterbury, showers clearing in the afternoon but the odd straggler may hang about Kaikoura till evening, southerlies tend easterly this afternoon. Partly cloudy for Nelson and Marlborough, a shower or two may develop, clearing later.
