A westerly quarter airflow lies over the country today, therefore western regions are looking to see a few showers or some rain while it’s drier in the east. A low moving towards the North Island later may bring rain to the upper North Island this evening.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly cloudy, chance of a shower. In the evening showers becoming more likely, there may even be some rain as a low / front moves in from the Tasman. Northwesterly winds.
Highs: 14 – 15

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly cloudy with the odd shower, rain possible overnight for northern Taranaki. Northwesterlies.
Highs: 7 – 14

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny with a touch of high cloud, light northwesterly winds.
Highs: 13 – 15

Wellington

Partly cloudy, a few spits from afternoon in the north. North to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 11 – 12

Marlborough & Nelson

Mostly sunny, a touch of high cloud. A few showers for Tasman move into the Sounds overnight. Northwesterlies.
Highs: 12 – 14

Canterbury

High cloud, some sun. Northerly winds.
Highs: 10 – 13

West Coast

Rain south of about Greymouth, chance of a heavy fall, easing from the south afternoon onwards. Evening showers for Buller. Northeasterly winds.
Highs: 10 – 13

Southland & Otago
Mostly cloudy, spits or showers from afternoon, clearing later in the day. Otago may stay mainly dry, perhaps a shower later in the day. North to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 11 – 12
