Saturday’s national forecast – Cold front moves in

A cold front pushes northwards over the South Island today bringing rain, heavy in the west. The North Island has a ridge of high pressure with a chance of isolated showers in the northeast this afternoon.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
A mix of sun and cloud, the odd isolated shower, especially in the afternoon. Light winds then afternoon sea breezes.
Highs: 24-26

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Partly cloudy, the odd shower possible. Rain develops overnight. North to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 21-24

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny, some high cloud. Overnight rain for Wairarapa. Northerlies for most, afternoon northeasterlies for coastal Hawkes Bay and Gisborne.
Highs: 25-26

Wellington

Partly cloudy, chance of a morning shower then clearing. Late evening rain as gusty northwesterlies change southerly.
Highs: 21-23

Marlborough & Nelson

Mostly sunny with some developing high cloud, breezy north to northwesterly winds. Rain later in the evening with a southerly change.
Highs: 23-26

Canterbury

Sun and increasing high cloud, rain moves into South Canterbury late morning then North Canterbury in the afternoon with a southerly change. Rain clearing overnight for all.
Highs: 21-26

West Coast

Heavy rain about Fiordland clears in the afternoon, heavy rain reaches North Westland around midday, clearing evening. Northerlies change southwest.
Highs: 18-21

Southland & Otago
Morning rain eases to showers, clearing early afternoon then sunny spells develop, Otago may not see sun till later in the day. Southwesterlies die out in the evening.
Highs: 16-17
