A large anticyclone lies to the east of New Zealand today meanwhile there’s a deep low (ex TC Uesi) in the Tasman Sea, in between a northeasterly airflow flows over the country.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Sunny areas and high cloud, mid level cloud at times especially about eastern coastlines. East to northeasterly breezes.
Highs: 21-28

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
High cloud and occasional sun, mid level cloud about the Central North Island. Light winds.
Highs: 21-27

Eastern North Island
Mostly cloudy, some sun may break through at times from afternoon. East to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 20-24

Wellington
Any morning low to mid level cloud clears then expect plenty of high cloud. Light easterlies tend northerly by midday.
High: 23

Marlborough & Nelson
Plenty of high cloud, morning low to mid level cloud about Marlborough then breaking away. North to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 20-26

Canterbury
Cloudy areas, some sun may break through in the afternoon. Freshening easterly winds then easing overnight and tending northerly.
Highs: 20-24

West Coast
Plenty of high cloud, a few areas of mid level cloud. Cloud thickens overnight with rain / showers moving into South Westland, rain more likely the further south you go into Fiordland. Light winds tend northeast by midday.
Highs: 21-27

Southland & Otago
Mostly sunny with high cloud increasing from afternoon, spots of rain overnight. Light winds, northeasterlies for coastal Otago.
Highs: 22-28
