A light westerly airflow lies over New Zealand today, a front within this flow over the lower South Island weakens during the day.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Morning cloud then mostly sunny, west to southwesterly winds. Afternoon northerlies for Bay Of Plenty.
Highs: 26-31

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly sunny, there may be some morning cloud then breaking away. A touch of high cloud gradually moves in. West to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 23-27

Eastern North Island
Sunny, some high cloud later in the day. Afternoon east to northeast winds.
Highs: 26-30

Wellington
Sunny areas and some high cloud, northerly winds.
High: 23

Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly sunny with some high cloud, light north to northwesterly winds then changing southerly overnight.
Highs: 29-32

Canterbury
Sunny areas and some mid / high cloud, light winds tend southerly late afternoon.
Highs: 28-33

West Coast
Mostly cloudy, rain about South Westland eases to showers in the morning then clearing evening. The odd shower moves into North Westland in the afternoon, clearing evening also. Winds light tending north to northeast.
Highs: 19-26

Southland & Otago
Early rain eases to the odd shower about Southland then clearing around midday, sun breaks through from afternoon. Otago has cloudy areas, risk of a shower or two otherwise mainly dry, some sun breaks through from afternoon. Light winds.
Highs: 19-26
