A large high is centred off to the southeast of the South Island today directing in an easterly quarter airflow over the country. Within this airflow is an occluded front which affects some eastern parts of both islands.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly sunny with light southerly quarter winds, there may be some cloud and a shower or two for Northland especially in the west. Also a chance of some fog morning and night mainly for inland areas (i.e. Southern Auckland and Waikato).
Highs: 15-16

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Plenty of high cloud, cloud towards the eastern ranges will be thicker and lower with areas of rain spreading from the east at times. Winds are mostly from the southerly quarter.
Highs: 12-14

Eastern North Island
Rain, heavy falls possible but periods of almost dry / drizzle at times too. Winds light mostly from the east or northeast.
Highs: 11-13

Wellington
Chance of a shower from late morning then rain develops during the afternoon, southerly winds.
High: 12

Marlborough & Nelson
High cloud thickens from morning, lowering during the afternoon then rain sets in by evening. Northwest Nelson looks to stay mainly dry. South to southeasterly winds.
Highs: 12-14

Canterbury
Cloudy areas and occasional sun, cloud thickens in the evening then some rain moves in later on / overnight. Winds are light and variable, tending southwest for a time.
Highs: 9-11

West Coast
Sunny weather with some evening high cloud, light winds.
Highs: 13-15

Southland & Otago
Mostly sunny after any morning cloud breaks away, high cloud develops in the evening. Coastal Otago has a mainly cloudy day however with the odd shower or drizzle patch at times, some rain overnight. East to northeasterly winds for all.
Highs: 10-12
