Updated 5:47am — A deep low sits just off the northeastern side of the North Island today directing in a gusty southeasterly airflow meanwhile the South Island sits under a ridge of high pressure.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
The odd shower, otherwise dry. Some rain for a time in the afternoon / evening but mostly at sea – easing later on or overnight. Eastern Northland, Great Barrier Island and the Coromandel may see some heavy rain for a time. Brisk / strong southeasterly winds especially about exposed northeastern coastal areas then easing overnight.
Highs: 15-16

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Plenty of high cloud, some sun may break through at times. A chance of some late afternoon / evening rain for a time about the Central North Island. Breezy southeasterly winds, strong about Taranaki.
Highs: 11-17

Eastern North Island
Gisborne sees areas of rain from morning, heavy at times a little further north about East Cape. The odd drizzle patch for Hawkes Bay then some rain late afternoon / evening. Finally, mostly cloudy skies for the Wairarapa, mainly dry then late afternoon or evening some drizzle moves in.  Southeasterly winds, strong Gisborne northwards with gales possible about East Cape.

Wellington
Cloud increasing from morning with freshening southeasterly winds.
High: 14

Marlborough & Nelson
Cloudy areas and occasional sun, east to southeasterly winds freshen in the morning.
Highs: 15-18

Canterbury
Cloudy areas developing in the morning, some sun breaks through at times especially later in the day. Southerly winds.
Highs: 12-15

West Coast
Sunny with light winds, there may be some cloud about Buller.
Highs: 15-19

Southland & Otago
A mix of sun and cloud with southwesterly winds about Southland and coastal Otago. Central Otago has a mainly sunny day after any early cloud clears, light winds from the south.
Highs: 13-18
